This course is a recording of a previously hosted live webinar event. Polling and question submission features are not available for this recording. Format and structure may differ from those of standard Medbridge courses.
This course was designed by a neurodivergent clinician to help identify how to bridge the gap between differing cognitive, sensory, and emotional experiences for neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals. This webinar will provide tips to help clinicians build authentic connections with neurodivergent pediatric patients to foster progress and growth.
Participants will learn practical strategies for identifying and understanding the unique needs of neurodivergent individuals. By focusing on recognizing individual differences to allow for accommodation of the nervous system versus activation and discovering points of shared joy, this webinar will teach clinicians and educators how to build authentic, supportive relationships with pediatric patients that promote trust and engagement. Tools for creating personalized, strengths-based approaches will be shared, along with techniques for fostering connection in a variety of settings.
Learning Objectives
- Define neurodiverse-affirming terminology to identify and implement individualized accommodations for neurodivergent clients in clinical settings
- Select appropriate accommodations and sensory inputs for neurodivergent pediatric clients to optimize comfort and prevent nervous system activation, enhancing the clinician’s ability to provide effective support in clinical settings
- Highlight child-led therapeutic strategies to enhance social participation and engagement in neurodiverse-affirming care
- Develop a reflective therapeutic self by applying self-awareness and adaptive strategies to enhance clinician–client relationships in neurodiverse-affirming care
